The nature of gases
A remarkable characteristic of gases = many of their physical properties are very similar regardless of the identity of the gas.
4.1 Observing gases
Bulk matter, or bulk = forms of matter that consist of large number of molecules
Properties of a gas sample emerge from the collective behavior of vast number of its individual particles.
e.g. Gasses are more compressible than solids and liquids because there is a lot of space between the molecules of gases.
Molecules are widely separated in gas state and they move rapidly and randomly
