Peritoneum: a serous membrane that lines the abdominal cavity Peritoneal folds form peritoneal ligaments, the mesentery, and the greater and lesser omentum, dividing the abdomen into compartments.
Peritoneal ligament: two layers of peritoneum that support a structure within the peritoneal cavity. The omentum and mesentery are large peritoneal ligaments that have specific names.
Omentum: attaches the stomach to another structure. The lesser omentum attaches the stomach and duodenal bulb to the liver.
