Understanding of Changwon
Changwon is the capital of Gyeongsangnam-do, in South Korea. Changwon is the 8th most populous city in South Korea, with a 2010-established population of 1,089,039. It encompasses a land area of 743 square kilometres (287 sq mi) on the southeastern coast of South Korea. The population of southeastern Korea, which includes the city of Busan, is more than 6,478,000. Changwon is known as a heavy industrial city. The city only covers 7% of South Gyeongsangnam-do province, but holds 33.6% of its population.
Before 2010, Changwon included just ‘의창구’ and ‘성산구’. The total number of population, 1,090,687, is result from combination of Masan of ‘마산회원구’, ‘마산합포구’ and Jinhae of ‘진해구’. It’s almost the same with the total population number of Ulsan which is metropolitan city. And the population ratio is very high comparing with neighboring area.
Changwon’s municipal goal is ‘The masterpiece city in the world’ and there are 4 specific plans that are ‘Energetic city’, ‘Harmonious city’, ‘Bountiful life’, ‘United citizens’.
