Sickle Cell Anemia is on the rise in South Korea due to increases in international marriage by those of lower social class especially the farmers. Sickle Cell carriers (heterozygotes) are prevented from contracting this deadly disease, however, Sickle Cell patients (homozygotes) eventually die from its complications. Children of international marriage in Korea are frequently discriminated against and the consequences can be potentially damaging to this homogenous society. Sons and daughters may experience prejudice and discrimination and, thus, feel rejected and this may further lead to mental illness such as depression. Some may go on to be delinquent

the problem we have now is a serious social problem that must be dealt with by our government. Our government must aggressively pursue and punish those who commit these kinds of criminal behavior. Although we have a collective association called “Violence against Foreign Wives”, I personally do not believe this is enough.
