Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe, and Hugo Haring. One who has even a little interest in architecture probably will have once heard about the former, whereas for the latter, even students currently majoring in architecture may have not heard of.
Mies van der Rohe is generally regarded as one of the main pioneers of the modern architecture along with Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright, and is especially noted for his so-called ‘international style’. Hugo Haring, on the other hand, is not quite famous as Mies, in spite of his productive activities at that time. When one is asked what keyword would represent modern architecture, a majority will probably answer as ‘simplicity, rectangular’. This shows how the Hugo Haring’s style was shunned from the history or modern architecture, and relatively unknown, for the organic architecture represented by Hugo Haring is certainly not at all simple or neither rectangular. In my opinion, the two architects are completely different from theory to form.
