SEGA ARCADE TO GAME SYSTEMS
-Founded 1951 in Tokyo by 2 Americans
-Periscope first arcade game exported to US and Europe in 1965
-By 80s it was leading arcade operator in Japan.
-1986, US subsidiary set up, 8 bit Master System only a limited success with 2 M sold in US/Japan.
-Sega initial strategy was to focus on Arcades and then the game system.

SEGA GENESIS MADE GAMES COOL
-1988 Sega launched the 16 bit Mega Drive targeted at 12-34 year olds.
-1989 Mega Drive launched in US under the ‘Genesis’ and allowed games form the older Master System to be played. Moved to Europe in 1990.
-Strategic partnerships: Altered Beast (violent), Moonwalker (Michael Jackson), Disney (Family) .
-SEGA realised it was all in the games/software
*Aggressive incentives and hiring programme (high salaries and development budgets
*EA arts worked with Sega,
*Sega of America by 1993 had a 50/50 split between in house and third party developers.
