The Harper Collins-Webster’s Dictionary defines “junk food” as food that is of “low nutritional value, eaten in addition to or instead of regular meals.” However, many cafeterias in colleges offer much junk food-such as hamburgers, French fried potatoes, fried chicken, pizza, snacks, and sodas. During May 26 and 27, I asked 100 GRCC students about their eating habits in the cafeteria.
students can have health problems from the junk food bought in college cafeterias. People usually say junk food contains high sodium, sugar, fat or calories and a low nutrient content. Mostly, the college’s students, who are normally between 17 to 25 years old, are at their school more than 3 hours in a day; therefore, they need to get an appropriate amount of nutrition form their meals for studying, moving and growing. However, junk food cannot provide proper nutrition for them.
