TESOL 대학원에서 제출했던 과제입니다. (About the CLT and it’s Approach in the Korean Educational Context )
According to Celce-Murcia, “ CLT grew out of a dissatisfaction with earlier methods that were based on the conscious presentation of grammatical forms and structures or lexical items and did not adequately prepare learners for the effective and appropriate use of language in natural communication” (Celce-Muria, 1991). And now, communicative language teaching (CLT) is becoming more and more important in a language classroom because it is believed that communicative competence should be the most important goal for learning a language, but we, as EFL teachers, should think how appropriate it is for our own teaching context or whether it is suitable at all. CLT comes from ESL context and therefore it is bound to have some difficulties settling down in EFL classrooms because their environment is different from that of English speaking countries. We should consider whether it is something that can be accepted universally or whether it is culture specific (Ellis, 1996).
