Are Media Dinosaurs Beneficial to Our Society?
In this 21st century, people in the world, especially in the States communicate through means of such called mass media. According to Webster Dictionary, mass media is defined as the plural form of a communication medium (as newspapers, radio, or television) that is designed to reach the mass of the people. Since the term was used first in 1923(Merriam-Webster), this society has had a great deal of dependency for communication among people in different geographic regions, political positions and social status. Political sensitivity, information dependency and social trust that mass media possess in the modern society, there have been raised concerns about the media conglomerates and their possible chances of controlling information we have in our society.
Now, there are the largest six media dinosaurs or other times called media giants in the U.S., General Electric, Walt Disney, News Corp., Time Warner, Via Com and CBS. During last a couple of decades, through countless mergers they had eating up the other small ones, the big six companies have built their current mammoth conglomerate form and come to expand their territories on nearly every forms of mass medium we can think of such as TV,
