Abstract
This paper examines how the current Iraqi War has been conducted; and through analyzing important American invasion and occupation policies as well as their effect on both US and Iraqi side, is intended to explain whether, and to what extent, the United States of America are responsible for creating a social, political and economic mess in Iraq. The paper argues that the United States as a growing superpower in the turbulent years after World War II got entangled in the Gordian Knot of the Middle East, and therefore, along with the ex-Soviet Union, have played a crucial role in the unfortunate series of events that led up to the current Iraqi war. The paper also argues that due to a serious underestimate of the cultural and the directly related to them political peculiarities of the region, as well as the actual influence of the religious fundamentalism among the Iraqi population, the United States practically had triggered the wave that plunged the Iraqi state into utter chaos.
