Acer, Inc. (A) 에이서사
Despite McDonald`s recent problems (see Case 1-1), the company`s business model has served as a source of inspiration for Taiwan businessman Stan Shih. However, Shih is not in the fast-food business; his company, Acer Inc., manufactures and markets personal computers for the consumer and home office markets as well as chips, monitors, key-boards, CD-ROM drives, and other hardware. Just as hungry consumers will shun a restaurant that serves warmed over food, most computer buyers want the absolute latest technology. For more than 15 years, Acer manufactured computers in Taiwan and shipped them to dealers through out the world. By building and marketing computers under its own brand name as well as supplying Hitachi, Siemens, and other companies on an "original equipment manufacturer"(OEM) basis, Acer became Taiwan`s number one exporter. Acer`s success also helped change the public`s perception that "made in Taiwan" was synonymous with cheap, low tech products.
