본문내용

Biogeochemical Cycles
Involve pathways of elements moving repeatedly between inorganic forms and organic molecules.
Cycle Perfection:
Refers to the completeness of the cycling process
“more perfect cycles” cycles in which the element is returned to the environment as rapidly as it is removed by living organisms.
“less perfect cycles” cycles in which part of he material is locked up in inaccessible chemical forms of geological formations for extended times.

The Phosphorus Cycle
Phosphorus is an essential element in DNA, in other vital cellular molecules, and in the structure of bone in vertebrate animals.
Principal reservoir is phosphate rock formed in past geologic ages.
Erosion by rainfall and runoff by streams makes phosphorus available to plants for root absorption which is then passed on to animals
Phosphorus is returned
