During the break after class, I realized that it was all my faults. I didn’t prepare the class thorough enough for Ss to participate in it. I just showed the PowerPoint presentation and made them practice in pair. I should have made sure the meaning of the sentences and how to pronounce the words, and prepared the worksheet which they could write their answers and ‘indirect speech’ on. I should have modeled the dialogue before making Ss do the role play. That naughty boy simply didn’t know what to say. I regretted warning him to concentrate on the class. That was because he might start hating English because of me.
The second class was a great success and Ss seemed to enjoy the grammar activity. That was because I modified the activity as a better one than before.
All in all, CLT can’t be successful at all without the teachers’ effort. It requires a far more efforts than GTM. It is really time-consuming. If I wouldn’t have realized that it was my entire fault, I jumped to the conclusion that CLT was not working at all, and I tried my best, but CLT was not realistic. I know that how busy the teachers are with the paper works. However, the reason being in school for teachers is to make Ss happy and develop the Ss’ potential. This was really important for me to become a happy teacher who always tries the best for Ss.
