Dream and Power of Romantic Love
The main character is Jay Gatsby. The whole story is about Gatsby being determined to get his past lover, Daisy back to him. This story shows us the true power of love and what it can do to a person. Sometimes determination for the desire of love can be harmful to oneself but in this story, it shows how Gatsby becomes more successful. He had to climb the American Dream of being a self-made man through whatever means necessary for her. Gatsby built his wealth, false image, and sacrifice at the end for his love for Daisy. Daisy was the dream and goal of Gatsby. Gatsby had created a different self, and was by her side even after many years and she was married. For Gatsby, everything he did was to get Daisy back.
The auther expresses Gatsby’s desire and determination for Daisy. This determination is showing the focus in the young Gatsby’s character at the end the novel.
Throughout Gatsby’s life after the World War I, all the mysteries and wealth surrounding Gatsby, was done to get himself near Daisy. He created an image to fit the life style and wealth just to be near Daisy who was married to a wealthy man. He had to create an image of himself that would fit into the social status that Daisy belonged to.
