After watching the movie Legally Blonde and Erin Brockovich, an analysis of the protagonists` search for identity in the movie
SEARCHING FOR IDENTITY
The Maturing Stage
The movies ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Erin Brockovich,’ portray women determined to find their true self and identity. These two women are Elle Woods, and Erin Brockovich, respectively. Elle and Erin’s journey of finding their identity are shown in a way that illustrates their dealing with significant change in their lives.
Elle Woods and Erin Brockovich, the two main characters in the two movies being analyzed, share many similarities, and also have much difference at the same time. Elle, a ‘typical blonde’ and a beauty queen, is a young, bright, beautiful college student who enters into Harvard University, first with the determination to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner Huntington III, who left her in order to become engaged with a ‘serious’ law student, Vivian. Erin is an older woman, bold and strong, also a former beauty queen, a mother of three children aged ten months, six, and eight years. She manages to make Ed allow her a job at a small law firm Masry & Vititoe, where she works in order to run her family as breadwinner.
Both women face the need to encounter changes in their identity during the course of their lives. Their struggles are portrayed well in the movie, how they deal with their hardships and how they overcome them into acquiring success. Their journey of identity search can be divided into three parts, the beginning stage, maturing stage, and the matured stage.
