A growing number of South Africans are being infected with HIV/AIDS; as of 2004 the number was approximately 5.5 million, the most of any country in the world. Not only are a large number of people dying from an incurable disease, a medical condition, but there are social problems which exacerbate the situation. Development, women’s roles, and the medical system are three of the main issues that should be part of any discussion held about HIV/AIDS in South Africa.
