Birth of GM (1904~1920)
William Durant, who managed a wagon factory in Michigan, took a falling automobile company named BUICK.
After taking ‘Olds Motors’ he established the headquarters in New Jersey and changed the company’s name into GM, this is the
beginning of the GM’s history. Durant took 25companies between 1908~1920, including Cadillac, which is considered the most luxurious brand of GM

Development of GM (1920~1950)
At the beginning of 1920s, Alfred Sloan was elected as the CEO; he had been in charge of GM until 1957, making GM the number 1 company in the world.
Market share of GM, which was 19% in 1920, more than doubled to 42% in 1937.
GM focused on the pride by possessing the car and roles of cars in human lifestyle.
Acquired Vauxhall(1925), OPEL (1929), Holden (1931)

Crisis of GM (1960~1980)
European companies started to expand their market share in the US.
GM began to produce compact vehicles while having comparative advantage in mid-sized vehicles. However, could not have comparative advantage over European companies when it comes to compact vehicles.
GM suffered deficit of $760,000,000
