It is reasonable that interaction is based on assumption of shared experience. For example, when I am talking with someone, I also have some expectations for the conversation and his answers. I also think this happens because of our background expectations which we had commonly. For example, ethnomethodologists explain this as breaking “rules” or certain acts we had expectations, like one acquaintance asked “How are you?”, and the other students answered, like real how his health or finances are. In this encounter, the acquaintance expected the other student to answer commonly. The ethnomethodological approach contributes to our knowledge of social interaction by making us aware of subconscious social realities in our daily lives. I really agree with this sentence, but I prefer to criticize it because this methodology does not examine the impact of macro level social institutions such as economy and education on people’s expectancies, and this methodology ignore gender differences or social classes.
