2. 4. Analysis of Adhesion Formation

The presence of adhesion formation between the cecum and the peritoneal wall was assessed 7 days after surgery.

» Procedure
1. The animals were euthanized immediately before analysis.
2. The skin and muscle layers of the abdomen were incised.
3. The resulting U-shaped flap was slowly lifted to reveal the adhesion, if present.
4. After carefully noting and separating any extraneous adhesions (i.e., retroperitoneal fat, bowel, or omentum).
5. The measurement of adhesion force between cecum and peritoneal defect.
6. the length and width of the peritoneal area involved in the adhesion were measured with a caliper.

7. The following values were calculated for every animal with an adhesion: area of adhesion, percentage of original wound area involved, and mean maximal strength of formed adhesions.
