Can you imagine yourself as a young Asian girl at an American school? You see a group of kids playing “jump rope” and ask if you can play. You hope that they will invite you to join in, but instead they say “sorry no Chinks allowed.” Has this or anything similar ever happened to you? Believe it or not most people in America have either been in this situation or known someone who has. People learn about racism when they are very young and they do not even know it because most of what they learn is from their parents. The Webster dictionary defines Racism as “prejudice or discrimination”. These primitive emotions have been with man since the dawn of mankind, but man has evolved to an open-minded species, however, will racism also evolve or will it vanish while we become more enlightened?
