Sample Essay 2
In most public places in America, smoking is no longer allowed. Smoking is not allowed in government office buildings or hospitals, and most restaurants have relegated smoking to one section of the restaurant only. Because of the health risks that smoking poses, and because of the lack of choice on the part of nonsmokers, I believe that laws that do not allow public smoking are beneficial and fair.
Smoking causes lung cancer, it harms unborn children, and it triggers migraines and asthma in many people. Smoking is dangerous, not only to those who smoke, but also to those who breathe in secondhand smoke. Science has proven that smoking is dangerous, so if smoking is banned from many public areas, then people who smoke will be smoking less, which could be beneficial to their health. Also, people who do not smoke will not be subjected to as much secondhand smoke, which could improve other's health as well. If I do not smoke, I should not be forced to suffer the ill effects of someone else's habit.
