The Great Depression was the worst economic slump ever in U.S. history, spreading to virtually all the industrialized world. The geographic proximity between Canada and U.S. relates two countries very closely in many ways: similar cultural, religious, historical, and economic backgrounds, and a similar government system, and so on. Thereby when the Great Depression was first developed in U.S., it was inevitable for Canada to face the same economic disaster as well, and moreover to some great extent. It is widely believed that U.S. suffered the most from the Depression. Since U.S. was the source of the Great Depression, it is justifiable to assume that she must have been most viciously attacked by the Depression. However, to most people’s surprise, economic decline during the downswing in Canada was even worse than U.S. due to various reasons.1
